چکیده
We investigate the approximability of no-wait permutation flow shop scheduling problem under the makespan criterion. We present a polynomial time approximation scheme (PTAS) for problem on any fixed number of machines.

Minimizing Makespan in No-Wait Job Shops
In this paper we study polynomial time approximation schemes (PTASes) for the no-wait job shop scheduling problem with the makespan objective function. It is known that the problem is MaxSNP-hard in the case when each job is allowed to have three operations or more. We show that if each job has at most two operations, the problem admits a PTAS if the number of machines is a constant (i.e., not ...
متن کاملMakespan Minimization in Job Shops: A Linear Time Approximation Scheme
In this paper we present a linear time approximation scheme for the job shop scheduling problem with fixed number of machines and fixed number of operations per job. This improves on the previously best 2 + ǫ, ǫ > 0, approximation algorithm for the problem by Shmoys, Stein, and Wein. Our approximation scheme is very general and it can be extended to the case of job shop scheduling problems with...
متن کاملThe flow shop problem with no-idle constraints: A review and approximation
The makespan minimization problem in flow shops with no-idle constraints on machines is considered. The latter means that each machine, once started, must process all its operations without intermediate idle time until all those operations are completed. The problem is known to be strongly NP-hard already for three machines. While being based on a geometrical approach, we propose several polyno...

متن کاملComparing Mixed-Integer and Constraint Programming for the No-Wait Flow Shop Problem with Due Date Constraints
The impetus for this research was examining a flow shop problem in which tasks were expected to be successively carried out with no time interval (i.e., no wait time) between them. For this reason, they should be completed by specific dates or deadlines. In this regard, the efficiency of the models was evaluated based on makespan. To solve the NP-Hard problem, we developed two mathematical mode...
